The weight in the base of the carousel drives the entire visible mechanism through one complete revolution four times a day. The carousel comprises a drive group, an escapement group with balance and a two-tier anchor and anchor wheel. A half-oscillation represents one second.

The minutes are displayed on the dial, which is seated on the Earth ring, while the passing hours are indicated by the red stone mounted on the extremity of the hand, which thus completes its eccentric revolution around the elliptical dial.

The distances between the hour indices vary, although the time intervals remain the same.
