Caravan Clock
On my way to a fortress, I walked across a dune. I felt great respect for the people and animals who brave the heat of the desert.
These experiences inspired me to create a clock in the shape of a fortress with a caravan passing by. So I didn’t bring a camel to Switzerland, but I did create my own little caravan.
I love observing my surroundings and discovering elements that I can mentally set in motion or reinterpret. I also invented a special way of telling the time for this clock:
The caravan moves around the fortress. One bedouin with 11 dromedaries indicates the daytime hours and one with 11 dromedaries indicates the night-time hours. You count the bedouin in front of the fortress and the number of animals behind him (up to the screw with the sun symbol). This gives you the hour.
A brass falcon indicates the minutes. It rotates on its own axis on the battlements and stares hungrily at a snake (the minute hand).
I made all the figures by hand. Each dromedary is depicted in a different position as it walks.
The clockwork is made of brass and steel, the case of gold-plated aluminium and brass.
